Convertible super car lovers rejoice! The R8 Spyder will soon be at your local Audi dealership. Pictures are floating around on the web and by the looks of the wheels, this bronze example would be fitted with the incredible 525 hp 5.2L V10. We expect that the mighty V10, which will most likely be joined by the "lesser" 420 hp 4.2L V8, will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or the semi-automatic R-tronic gearbox, with Quattro of course!
Audi does not yet offer, perhaps it never will, a power retractable hard top. Therefore, it is fitting that the R8 Spyder sports a soft top. I for one think that a folding fabric roof is a little more romantic and besides, if it's a metal roof you want, get the coupe. Other visual differences include are the twin vented flying buttresses, the lack of side blades and a very Audi-like brushed aluminum windscreen frame. Pricing is of yet unknown however expect to pay a premium of about $25,000 over the already considerable asking price of $141,000 for a 4.2 and $173,000 for the 5.2. Photo Credit : Audi |
