2019 Audi Q5 vs 2019 Bmw X3

Thanks to exceptional levels of performance, safety, and comfort, German-engineered vehicles have long been considered the world's best. Because of their lofty pedigrees, however, many new car buyers feel that German automobiles are financially out of reach. But, nothing could be further from the truth. Most German automakers produce vehicles for a wide range of budgets and tastes, some of which actually cost less than their comparable American, Japanese, or Korean counterparts. Here's a look at two such German vehicles in the SUV category - the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 - what makes them stand out, and how they match up against each other.

Performance

The Audi Q5 comes with a stock 248-horsepower, 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers ample acceleration. The base X3 comes with a 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine rated at 240-horsepower. The Q5 and X3 get almost identical fuel economy at 9.9 l/100 km combined for the Q5 compared to 8.4 l/100 km for the X3. Along with standard all-wheel drive, all Audi Q5 trims come with Drive Mode Select - a feature that lets drivers fine-tune their ride by choosing one of four driving modes - Dynamic, Comfort, Sport, and Individual.

Comfort, Convenience, Technology

Both cabins impress with an abundance of soft-touch surfaces, attractive accents, and upscale materials. The Q5 comes standard with leather upholstery, while BMW appointed the X3 with leatherette. Connectivity features found on both vehicles include a premium infotainment system controlled by a touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay (standard on the Q5, optional on the X3), Bluetooth streaming and calling, and Android Auto (Q5 only). The Q5 has a slightly larger screen, and an available handwriting recognition option makes using the navigation system a breeze.

Safety

The Audi Q5 earned perfect five-star scores in frontal and side crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and an overall five-star rating, as well. Both SUVs received the highest rating of "Good" in six crash-test evaluations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Standard safety features found on the Q5 as well as the X3 include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, and rearview cameras. The Q5 also comes with Audi Pre Sense Basic which tightens the seat belts, prepares the brake system, and closes the windows if it detects a potential collision.

The following table points out some of the highlights of the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3.
