As two of the top luxury SUVs in the world, the Audi Q7, and the BMW X7 offer buyers exceptional levels of luxury, reliability, and performance. While the two share many of the same traits, they also differ somewhat in some important areas. Here’s a look at both, and how they compare in the categories of performance, interior comfort and technology, and standard safety.
Audi offers the 2020 Q7 with a choice of either a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine or a supercharged 3.0L 6-cylinder plant. The 2.0L engine gets up to 248-hp while the V-6 generates up to 329 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. Both options get matched to an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission. All Q7 models come standard with Audi Quattro (all-wheel drive). The X7 comes with a choice of a standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder, or an optional turbo V8. The BMW also comes with standard AWD.
Standard comforts on the Audi Q7 include heated eight-way power-adjustable leather driver and front passenger seats, a panoramic sunroof with tilt, slide, and a power sunshade, and heated 3-spoke, leather-covered steering wheel. Q7 Premium Plus and Prestige models get upgraded to a 3D Bose Surround Sound System. The Bose system features nineteen high-performance speakers, 5.1 digital signal processing, and AudioPilot, Centerpoint, Advanced Staging, and SurroundStage technologies. Both vehicles come equipped with satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and music streaming.
Audi, as well as BMW, take safety seriously with standard features like Collision Mitigation Braking and Forward Collision Warning systems. Both SUVs come standard with typical safety features like Hill Start Assist, Electronic Stability Control, and a full suite of strategically placed airbags. The Q7 also comes with a Rear View Camera, Xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, Audi Pre Sense Basic, and Audi Pre Sense Front. Audi Q7 Prestige editions also come with Audi’s Parking Assistant feature, active lane assist, and adaptive cruise control with a stop/start function.
