Fast charging stations use direct current (DC) chargers.

DC fast chargers offer the fastest charging speeds available today. Current DC fast chargers supported by Electrify Canada include the Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors and CHAdeMO connectors. The brand of EV you drive will determine which plug you can use. You should be able to find out more about your vehicle’s capabilities from your owner’s manual and the manufacturer’s official website.

CCS and CHAdeMO chargers differ in the speeds at which they can charge. CCS on Electrify Canada’s network can charge at speeds up to 350kW, while our CHAdeMO chargers can charge at up to 50kW. Electrify Canada stations have CCS chargers with varying speeds, ranging from 50kW up to 350kW. Not all EVs are capable of charging at the charger’s maximum power level. Check with your vehicle’s manufacturer to find out your EV’s charging capabilities.

All Electrify Canada charging stations have both CCS and CHAdeMO plugs available. That means it doesn’t matter what kind of EV you drive—just about every EV model can use our stations.

So, just how fast is fast charging?

Electrify Canada DC fast chargers are the fastest on the market today1 and can charge compatible EVs at 350kW. For cars not capable of accepting 350kW, the 350kW chargers will give you the fastest charge your EV can accept.

Many new EVs coming to market will be able to accept 100kW or higher charging power. Electrify Canada has one of the few networks ready to support this technology.

As of August 15, 2019.

Fast charging stations are expanding.

More and more DC fast chargers are being built across the Canadian Provinces. By mid-year 2020, Electrify Canada is expected have up to 32 charging stations available, with more to follow in the future. Our network alone will cross 4 Canadian Provinces along major routes from in well traveled metro areas.

Our 150kW to 350kW chargers will be available at charging stations near highways, and in metropolitan areas.

Plug, pay, charge, and go.

It’s never been easier to charge your electric vehicle.

STEP 1: PLUG

Choose a compatible DC fast connector and plug in

Electrify Canada stations offer CCSCHAdeMO, and J1772™ connectors. This means that almost every EV model on the road today can charge with us.

When using an Electrify Canada station, look for the green label for CCS or the blue label for CHAdeMO. The maximum available power level is displayed directly below the connectors, ranging from 50kW up to 350kW. If your EV isn’t capable of charging at the maximum power level, our chargers will automatically give you the fastest charge your car can handle. Just plug in and the charger display screen or the Electrify Canada mobile app will tell you all you need to know and help manage the charging session.

The dual charging cables are not designed to charge two vehicles at the same time, but rather to easily reach your car’s charging port—no matter where it’s located. If either connector is in use, look for a different open charger. Most Electrify Canada locations will have four or more chargers at a station.

STEP 2: PAY

Paying for a charge

Our flexible payment options make it easy to pay for a charge.

Electrify Canada Pass and Electrify Canada Pass+:
The Electrify Canada app lets you pay through your phone and even get discounted per-minute rates through the Electrify Canada Pass+ subscription. Learn more about Electrify Canada Pass and Electrify Canada Pass+.

Credit or Debit Card:
Pay at the “pump,” so to speak, by just inserting your card.1

Plug-and-Charge:
We’re working on exciting new technology that will recognize your car and associated payment method right when you plug in. Stay tuned for new developments.

You’ll be able to see the cost-per-minute before you begin your session on the charger screen or on the app. Charging rates are listed below for your reference.

1A temporary authorization of $25 CAN will be applied to all credit or debit cards, which will be released after final billing takes place by your card provider.

STEP 3: CHARGE

Check your charging progress

The Electrify Canada app lets you track your charging progress and opt into notifications. You can get a notification at the start of the charging session, updates on your charging status, a notification when your session is complete, and a receipt after you’ve unplugged.2 This makes it easy to leave your car during the session and know when you need to get back. If you don’t have the Electrify Canada app, you can get text notifications by entering your cell phone number when prompted on the charging station screen.3

STEP 4: GO

Get back on the road

When your vehicle is fully charged, it will automatically stop charging. The charger screen will tell you when your session is done, and you can get notified either through the app or via text message. Then it’s time to unplug and move out of the parking spot in front of the charger to make room for another EV. If your vehicle is not moved within ten minutes of the completion of your charge, an idle fee of $0.40 per minute will be added to your total session bill. We do this to try to ensure that more people have a chance to charge.

Pricing and Membership

Pick a payment option that's right for you

With the Electrify Canada app, you can pay right through your phone. We offer two easy ways to pay for your charge: Electrify Canada Pass and our Electrify Canada Pass+ subscription program.

Standard per-minute cost
+ $1 session fee

Reduced per-minute cost
+ $4 monthly subscription fee

With Electrify Canada Pass, there are no upfront costs. This is a good option for drivers who don’t need to charge regularly. Electrify Canada Pass+ is a new monthly subscription plan that can save members about 20 percent on every minute of charging as compared to non-subscription prices. This is a great choice for drivers who charge frequently outside their homes.

Don’t want to download the app? You can also “pay at the pump,” so to speak, with a credit or debit card.1 This per-minute price is the same as Electrify Canada Pass.

A temporary authorization of  $25 CAN will be applied to all credit or debit cards, which will be released after final billing takes place by your card provider.

Know the pricing before you charge

Electrify Canada’s charging costs are by the minute. These per-minute costs are dependent on your location and the power level in which your car is placed at the beginning of the charging session. This new pricing structure is called power level pricing.

We’re aiming to keep prices as low as possible, while giving you more chargers, with faster speeds, in better locations across the country.

Our DC fast charging stations have a range of 50kW, 150kW, and 350kW chargers. These kW values refer to the maximum power each charger can provide. Each charger is labeled, so you know what kind of charger you are using and its maximum power.

You can see the charging costs at a particular location before you begin your session by tapping the “Help” button on the charger screen. Or, log in to the app, and select the station where you’d like to view the charging costs.

How does power level pricing work?

Once your EV is plugged in, your car will tell the charger the maximum power it can accept. This will determine the power level into which you’ll be placed, and the associated per-minute cost for your entire session. We automatically put you into the highest power level available at the charger that is compatible with your car’s charging capability. This is to ensure you get the fastest charge possible.

You may notice the speed of charge fluctuate throughout your session. Each model of EV charges differently, and charging speed can also be influenced by factors such as weather, the age of your battery, and your battery’s state of charge when you begin the session. However, once you’re placed into a power level at the beginning of your session, the per-minute price will stay the same throughout the session.

You’ll be shown the power level in which your car is placed at the start of the session. Your power level pricing will be shown on the charger screen or on the Electrify Canada app.

Here's what happens when you charge:

Power level is determined

If your car tells the charger that it can accept a maximum charging power of 95kW, for example, it is placed in the “1-125kW” power level.

Per-minute price is set for the session

The power level set at the start of your session determines the per-minute price, which stays the same throughout the session.

Session begins, but charging speed may vary

The charging speed may fluctuate throughout your session, based on the model of your car and factors such as weather, the age of your battery, and your battery’s state of charge when you begin the session.

$0.40 / min. idle fee applied after a 10 minute grace period.

Track your charging session

While your vehicle is charging, you can check its progress in real time. This way, you’re free to grab a bite, shop, or run errands while your vehicle charges. If your vehicle communicates it, the app will show you your battery’s current state of charge (SOC) and the time until your battery reaches “bulk,” typically around 80% SOC.

You also can choose to get notifications when your charging session has started, slowed, and stopped. Once your session is complete, the app will show you your receipt.

Pay for a charge

No need for credit or debit cards at the station. Now, you can upload your payment information into the Electrify Canada app and pay for your charging session through your phone. Start by picking a membership plan that’s right for you. Electrify Canada Pass has no upfront cost, so you can pay by the session at the standard price. Electrify Canada Pass+ is our subscription plan that offers reduced per-minute prices.

For all charging sessions, a $0.40/minute idle fee is applied after a 10-minute grace period so that others can have the opportunity to recharge too.
